The 7th Annual Poets vs MCs night is upstairs at the Brighton Komedia on Thursday 28th January and promises an entertaining night for the bargain price of £3.
Hammer and Tongue proudly unleashes another year’s grimy culmination of angst-ridden poetic diction, exaggerated attitudinal posturing and common-or-garden crotch-grab action to bring you…
POETS VS. MCs 2010!
Featuring the city’s mightiest wordsmiths and hardest-nut MCs, who will slug it out onstage to the very proverbial death, that YOU – the baying audience – can decide who’s coolest and sexiest: poets or rappers.
PLUS Special Guest Host, bridging the gap most eloquently via excellent diplomacy skills and even more excellent hiphop-poetry:
DIZRAELI:
Rapper, writer, poet – and singer with the band Bad Science, Dizraeli is a hip hop tour de force. Taking in politics, love, rain, supermarkets, grief, drug culture and masculinity with a sense of humour and directness that can make you wince, he is also a member of the Brighton-based CommUNITY Collective, and all round good egg – “A HIPHOP TOUR DE FORCE!”
Jolly good fun and an absolute bargain, last year’s event was YET AGAIN judged an equal win between both teams, so this year the pressure is on…
Last year’s was also absolutlely packed, with people queuing all down the sad, little verbally expressionless streets, so get there early to avoid disappointment – or at the very least to avoid the freezing of extremities!
The cost is £3 – see you there!

Glue Gun ‘91 are holding their Christmas special at the Victory on December 15th. The night starts at 8pm and is completely and utterly free. Should be a good night. Quoting from the facebook event page:
On the bill we have the fantastic ROBIN LAWLEY – who will be delivering his own particular blend of poetry and social commentary. As if that wasn’t enough, he’s also going to reprise his role as commentator supreme as he presides over the annual Glue Gun ‘91 Christmas Eating Contest. But what will our bold contestants be devouring this year? You’ll have to attend to find out.
Also on the bill, reprising their astounding debut last Christmas, we have the unique interpretive dance duo GIMP MASK. Impossible to describe, but should be back to fine lightbulb-smashing form. Don’t miss out!
And finally, we have musical delights from HEATER JET. Described by the music press as “scandinavian sauna slaughter”, we can only leave it to your imagination as to what this could possibly entail.
Plus, of course, the usual Glue Gun ‘91 delights and surprises. Exactly what you need on a brisk Tuesday evening.
Tuesday 15th December, 8pm sharp
Upstairs at the Victory Inn, Duke St.
Completely and utterly free
